An experiment that attempted to merge cat and machine mind for military purposes fails and creates a super intelligent race of cyborg cats that nearly wipe out the human race.The few survivors left are turned into cyborg long range telepathic transmitters/amplifiers.However recent advances in telepathy render the human based devices obsolete and the new masters set to replace them.
